Hitomezashi (一目刺し) is a traditional Japanese sashiko technique where patterns are created from dashed lines arranged into repeating designs.

Unlike continuous sashiko, the stitches are worked in straight lines, one direction at a time, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. By layering these lines, the pattern gradually appears as a structured, grid-like geometric design.

Depending on the direction and spacing of the stitches, the same base technique can produce a wide variety of patterns, from simple to more intricate layouts.
